{FAN} #5 The Magic Tree House: Night of the Ninjas~Mary Pope Osborne {Review}

This is the start of The Mystery of the Magic Spell arc. Jack and Annie find a mouse in the tree house, which Annie calls Peanut, and they learn that Morgan is in trouble and needs them to break a magic spell. They have to go and get four objects, so they travel to Japan in search of an unknown object.

I still find it funny how Jack is always trying to prepare, usually logically so by reading a little bit about where they’re going, but Annie never lets him.

At one point, Jack and Annie are brought somewhere to get help, they wind up not really being helped, and then are told to leave. It was so weird, but it made me laugh.

They try to be one with nature, but I don’t get how it ever worked. Apparently, the mindset they use to go about it is a factual mindset used by ninjas at the time. The story is actually very accurate when it comes to ninjas. I watched this video that goes in-depth about the accuracies of the ninjas in the book, and the creator comments that it’s one of the more accurate accounts of ninjas they have seen. You can watch the video here: How “Ninja” Is Magic Tree House, Night of the Ninjas!? – (Which Ninja)

Should you read it?:

I wasn’t a huge fan of this one. It was okay, but a lot of it felt pointless. They go to get help, don’t get help, and then are basically on their own. I guess they got a little help, but hardly enough to count to me.
